It’s 2am on Sunday morning, and until right now, I haven’t found time to write this week.
I got dinner with a dear friend from high school last night. I’d planned to spend some time together, head home around 9pm, and write for a few hours until bed. But instead, we spent nearly eight hours sitting at the kitchen table, laughing and joking and reminiscing about the fifteen years between our Freshman year and now.
Our lives have gone down pretty divergent paths: I’m moving to San Francisco for my career in Tech. I’ve worked for a few startups and have an MBA. I love talking about Venture Capital as an asset class and conflicts between Monetary and Fiscal Policy in the Federal Government. By contrast, he got married at 23 and teaches high school math. He coaches a local wrestling program and fights with his Home Owner’s Association.
A word I tend to overuse is magic. I think good friendships are their own sort of magic. No matter where you are or what you do, a good friend will ground and center you. Without words, they’ll remind you how loved you are and how much you matter. Having friendships, close friendships, is a blessing we don’t spend enough time appreciating.
That blessing also stole my writing time for the week, so today’s piece is a short one.
So true Dan. Best wishes with your next chapter of life.
Tim
Very accurate assessment.
